Iraqi Kurdistan in Iran’s crosshairs as Israel blamed for drone attack

The story: Iranian state media have accused opposition groups based in Iraqi Kurdistan of involvement in the recent targeting of a military workshop in central Iran.

Meanwhile, state media have also highlighted the "need for air defenses" on the Iraq-Syria border. This follows bombings of trucks carrying Iranian goods by unknown aircraft in the area.  

The coverage: The media affiliate of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) on Feb. 1 alleged "Kurdish counterrevolutionary involvement" in the Jan. 28 targeting of a defense ministry facility in Isfahan. Iranian authorities say the attack was thwarted.

  • The report claimed that the three small drones that were used had been "transferred to the country by counterrevolutionary Kurdish groups" and "assembled in a well-equipped workshop" in Iran.

  • Notably, the report further alleged that an unnamed "foreign intelligence service" ordered the attack and "provided the drone parts and explosives."
