UAE-US mega energy deal reaffirms bilateral relationship

The story: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States have signed a strategic partnership to invest in sustainable energy sources. The Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy (PACE) provides a framework for shared investment, financing, and support for clean energy and reaffirms the bilateral relationship following a period of apparent friction.

The coverage: UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MbZ) on Nov. 1 attended the signing of the PACE agreement by US Coordinator for Energy Security Amos Hochstein and the Emirati Envoy for Climate Change Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber. 

  • The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the deal provides a strategic partnership to invest 100B USD in clean energy projects in the UAE and the US, creating 100 gigawatts of power generation capacity by 2035 to “enhance energy security, proliferate clean energy technology, and support climate action.”
