Despite rise of fast-food, traditional fish dishes remain central in southern Iraq

Many places around the world are known for their traditional cuisine, with exotic dishes becoming folklore, titillating the senses, and attracting admiring tourists and fans. Iraq is famous for several dishes including stuffed vegetables dolma, a sheep parts stew called pacha, kebabs, and the renowned masgouf which is grilled carp fish.

Certain dishes are specific to distinct areas, standing out for their own unique cuisine. In southern Iraqi households, fish is often on the menu.
