Once popular Kurdish opposition party set for loss in Oct. vote

Iraqi Kurdistan’s Change Movement (Gorran) will on May 19 mark the fourth anniversary of the death of its founder and longtime leader, Nawshirwan Mustafa. The occasion comes as the party is at a crossroads.

In the years following its establishment in 2009, Gorran was a formidable rival to the ruling parties in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI): the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
