New Iraqi parties gird to set up opposition without representation

Ten groups that have emerged from the Oct. 2019 protest movement in Iraq, known locally as the Tishreen (October) parties, have announced the formation of a political opposition. The grouping is the first of its kind because it will participate in neither the parliament nor the government, unlike previous opposition groupings.

The Al-Bait Al-Watani (The National House), a party set up by opposition activists, on Aug. 10 published a statement announcing the formation of the first political opposition grouping aimed at ending the ethno-sectarian quota system and building a state based on true citizenship....
