Many fires with suspect origins have been sweeping Iraq for the past three years. Between January and March of this year alone, the interior ministry recorded 7,000 blazes. Although fires have broken out in government buildings and large marketplaces, the agricultural sector has become a particular target for suspected arsonists, who appear to aim to threaten Iraq’s increasing food self-sufficiency for their own economic or political ends...
