Calls for strike put Iranian businesses in dual crosshairs

The story: Iran's chief justice has threatened legal action against people campaigning for businesses to go on strike. Meanwhile, footage indicates that dissidents have issued threats against business owners if they do not join a walkout. This comes as opponents of the Islamic Republic have urged three days of planned labor action.

Social media reports indicate that a notable shops across Iran have joined the campaign. But state-linked media insist that weeks of calls for a strike have failed to rally business owners.

The coverage: Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei stated on Dec. 5 that people "threatening" others to go on strike or face retaliation should be "identified and put on trial."
