Dwindling economic opportunity drives rare Oman protests

The story: Protesters in the Omani cities of Sohar and Salalah are for a third day demonstrating in protest against poor economic conditions. The government has been deploying riot police in an attempt to disperse the crowds, which in some cases turned violent. Local media has reluctantly covered the unrest, only acknowledging the large presence of “jobseekers” outside the labor ministry’s directorate office in the Al-Batinah North governorate.
