Exclusive: Deprived of voting rights, Iran ‘in consultations’ to settle UN dues

The story: Iran is in consultations to find a mechanism to pay its overdue United Nations membership dues, informed sources have told Amwaj.media. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Jan. 11 notified the world body’s General Assembly that 8 countries had lost their voting rights over unpaid fees. Beyond Iran, Venezuela and Sudan have suffered the same fate. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior Iranian official indicated confidence in that a solution will be found, declining to explain how Tehran intends to bypass US sanctions to settle the debt.
