‘Execution of IRGC spies' points to heightened extra-territorial intelligence war

The story: In a rare announcement, the Baluchi Sunni militant group Jaish Ul-Adl says it has executed three “spies” allegedly linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This comes amid signs of an intensifying intelligence war between the Islamic Republic and its foes—including Israel.

Tehran has accused foreign spy services of backing the nationwide protests sparked by the Sept. 2022 death of a young woman in the custody of morality police. In this context, Iran’s supreme leader has notably called for "more cooperation" between rival domestic security services to counter threats.

The coverage: Jaish Ul-Adl on June 26 announced the execution of an Afghan citizen and a Pakistani national over alleged ties to the IRGC. The nationality of the third individual is unclear.
