Iraq's fish stock threatened by overfishing, pollution, past wars

The story: Local authorities in southern Iraq have kicked off a new campaign to curb illegal fishing activities - and especially during breeding seasons. Farming and fishing have long been the main source of income for generations of Iraqis living in the south and on the banks of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. However, rampant pollution, reduced water flow and unregulated fishing are taking their toll on livelihoods.
