GCC tour nets Turkey’s president pledges of major investment, trade

The story: Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has concluded a Gulf tour which featured visits to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Erdogan’s stops in Saudi Arabia and the UAE demonstrate the expanding Turkish relationships with two former rivals.

Turkey is seeking investment from wealthy Gulf Arab states to revive its distressed economy. This is while Abu Dhabi and Riyadh pursue cooperation with Ankara to balance against a perceived US withdrawal from the region. 

The coverage: The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) released a joint statement on July 19 that summarized Erdogan’s July 17 trip to the Kingdom.
