Gulf Arab states welcome US killing of Al-Qaeda leader

The story: Gulf Arab states have hailed the US announcement that Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri has been killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan. Emirati and Saudi officials have welcomed the move and employed it as a rallying call for further counterterrorism cooperation among regional partners. Meanwhile, Qatar has expressed a “firm and supportive” stance in favor of “countering terrorism,” reiterating that “Afghanistan should not be a haven” for terrorists. Zawahiri had long been wanted for his role in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
