Having banned US social media, Iran receives same treatment

The story: Twitter/X has removed the verified status of several accounts linked to the Iranian state. The move follows accusations by a campaign group that the social media giant is profiting from sanctioned entities by offering them premium subscriptions.

Twitter/X’s measure also comes after a decision by Meta—the parent company of Facebook and Instagram—to remove some accounts run by the Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
