Iran attempts difficult balancing act as Houthis target UAE

The story: Iran has renewed its call on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to end the Yemen war. This follows the recent attacks on the Emirati capital by Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, better known as the Houthis.

The Iranian government has not directly commented on the Houthi attacks. However, an organization linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has hailed the Yemeni movement—albeit characterizing its strikes as targeting the Saudi-led coalition and the United States rather than the UAE.

The coverage: The Houthis targeted an oil storage facility and an airport in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 17, killing three people and injuring six. On Jan. 24, then group again fired missiles at the Emirati capital, but they were intercepted...
