Iran’s Reformist president under pressure to refuse tough new hijab law

The story: Iran’s constitutional watchdog, the Guardian Council, has approved a controversial new law to strictly enforce the Islamic dress code. The legislation has caused a furor not only among critics of the mandatory hijab, but also among senior clerics who say its harsh measures will have undesirable consequences on society. Pressure is now building on Reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian to refuse to implement the law.
