Iran starts 20% uranium enrichment as tensions rise with US

The story: Iran has resumed producing 20% enriched uranium at its underground Fordow site in a further rollback of commitments to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The moves comes amid rising tensions with the United States in the final weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency. The uranium enrichment increase was legislated by Iran’s parliament last month, obliging the government to resume some nuclear activities that Tehran previously curbed under the JCPOA.
