Iraq’s central bank governor dodges parliamentary hearing

The story: A hearing for the embattled governor of the Iraqi Central Bank (CBI), Mustafa Ghalib, has been postponed amid controversy. The Jan . 27 hearing was organized at the request of Al-Hikma bloc chief Falih Al-Sari. But parliament failed to hold the session due to not having the necessary quorum of 167 MPs. Ghalib has come under fire after irregularities were found related to the CBI’s currency auctions and the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar. The session has now been rescheduled for next week. 

The coverage: On Jan. 27, Mawazin News, an independent Iraqi news outlet, attributed the lack of a quorum - based on an unnamed parliamentary source - to the MPs preoccupation with the 2021 budget bill currently under review...
