The story: The recent Cairo peace summit was a “futile” attempt by Arab leaders to address the Hamas-Israel war, key hardline media in Iran have charged. The violence in Gaza has presented the Iranian government with an opportunity to further approach regional states such as Saudi Arabia, which has reportedly been considering normalization with Israel. The latter has been bitterly opposed by the Islamic Republic. On the other hand, the conflict in Gaza has enabled Iran to put pressure on Muslim countries which enjoy close ties with Israel, including Azerbaijan.
