Dealing with Iran remains contentious issue within GCC

The story: Qatar has called on fellow members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to engage diplomatically with Iran. The call is significant as it comes shortly after the reconciliation summit held amid GCC members in Saudi Arabia. The summit ended a years-long blockade of Qatar by the Arab quartet (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the UAE) over Doha's ties with Tehran, among other matters.

The coverage: On Jan. 19, the Doha-based Qatar Tribune republished Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani's interview with Bloomberg the day before, when he issued the call for talks with Iran.
