Pressure mounts on top Sunni cleric as Iran hosts Pakistan’s Army chief

The story: Pakistan's Army chief has met with top Iranian officials in Tehran to discuss border security. The trip comes amid an uptick in militant activity inside Iran claimed by a reportedly Pakistan-based group.

Iranian hardliners have also seized on the rise in violence to increase pressure on their domestic opponents. In particular, a prominent Sunni cleric who has turned into a critic of the political establishment has come under renewed fire.
