Raisi rocked by ‘macaroni-gate’ as Iran slashes flour subsidies

The story: Pasta and bread prices in Iran have sharply risen after a cut in government subsidies for imported flour. Officials say the move is necessary to combat the smuggling of subsidized flour out of the country amid rising global food prices over the Russia-Ukraine war. But many Iranians on social media are blaming the policies of conservative President Ebrahim Raisi for worsening economic conditions.
