Qatari Emir’s first Egypt visit since 2015 signals closer ties ahead

The story: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has visited Egypt for the first time since 2015. The two countries reconciled in early 2021 as the Arab Quartet (Bahrain, Egypt Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) ended the blockade of Qatar it initiated in 2017. The Emir and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reportedly discussed ways to boost trade, energy security, and defense cooperation. Qatar has previously committed to investing 5B USD in Egypt, indicating a notable improvement in relations.
