Questions asked as Iran vows to guarantee safety of dual nationals

The story: Iran’s foreign ministry plans to launch an online portal that allows dual nationals to check whether they can freely enter and leave the country. Those who are cleared will have the foreign ministry’s guarantee that they will not be detained or face any legal problems during their stay, Iran’s chief diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has declared.

However, Iran’s history of detaining dual citizens casts doubt over the foreign ministry’s claim that it will protect them from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The parallel security apparatus does not answer to the elected government.
